Service

Our ISO 16232 services.

ISO 16232 describes methods for extraction, analysis and documentation of particulate contamination on components and systems. Especially in international supply chains, it is the basis for cleanliness specifications and quality requirements.

  • Particle extraction
  • Filtration and gravimetric analysis
  • Optical particle classification with the light microscope
  • Testing according to ISO 16232 and documentation of the results
  • OEM and customer specifications based on ISO 16232

ISO 16232 itself does not define limit values. Limit values are stated in your drawing or customer specification; we test and document accordingly.

Comparable results along the supply chain.

ISO 16232 provides a common basis for assessing technical cleanliness and makes test results comparable within international supply chains.

One standard, one document

The 2018 edition replaced the ten-part version ISO 16232-1 to -10 of 2007. It applies to components and systems of road vehicles.

Typical applications

  • Electric motors
  • Gearboxes and drive components
  • Battery cells and battery systems
  • Hydraulics and fluid technology
  • Electronic components
  • Precision parts

Reasons for testing

International projects, series testing, complaints and the qualification of new parts and processes.

ISO 16232, VDA 19.1 or factory standard?

ISO 16232

International standard, widely used in global supply chains. Accredited to the 2018-12 edition excluding the methods of clauses 9.3 and 9.4.

VDA 19.1

Guideline of the German automotive industry, accredited to the 2015-03 edition with E.1 to E.4 and F.1 to F.3.

VDA 19.1 testing

Factory standard

Manufacturer-specific requirements, often methodically based on ISO 16232 or VDA 19.1, implemented according to the applicable test specification.

Testing to factory standards

Four steps to your test report

How ISO 16232 testing works.

  1. 01

    Send your requirement

Share the component, drawing, limit value, standard or customer requirement.

  2. 02

    Clarify feasibility and scope

Together with you, TecClean determines which test scope is required and technically feasible.

  3. 03

    Ship the parts

Send the sample or test lots to TecClean, securely packed.

  4. 04

    Testing and report

TecClean carries out the agreed analysis and provides the test report.

For suitable parcel-sized samples: optional express processing within 1 to 2 working days. The day of delivery is not counted.

FAQ

Questions about ISO 16232 testing

What is ISO 16232?

ISO 16232:2018 “Road vehicles, Cleanliness of components and systems” specifies requirements for determining and documenting particulate contamination on functionally relevant components and systems of road vehicles. In 2018 it replaced the ten-part version of 2007.

Is ISO 16232 testing at TecClean accredited?

Yes, to ISO 16232 in the 2018-12 edition, according to the annex to the accreditation certificate excluding the methods of clauses 9.3 and 9.4.

Does ISO 16232 contain limit values?

No. The standard does not define cleanliness limit values. Limit values come from your drawing, specification or customer requirement.

Can I order ISO 16232 testing from abroad?

Yes. Samples are sent to us from Germany and many European countries. Enquiries and consultation are possible in English and German.
